So, you’ve decided on a sailing holiday. Great choice. The hardest part of this process was choosing the right place to go to. Now, as the days tick by slowly, you will find that the excitement grows and you simply cannot wait anymore, but you still need to make sure that you are properly prepared for your trip. Here are our top tips for ensuring that you are prepared before you set sail on your adventure.
Keep it sailing simple
One of the most common mistakes those heading out to sea make is that they pack too much, says Lynn from YCS.
Don`t make the mistake of bringing too much luggage. There will be very limited storage space on board your yacht. Also, you should know that a sailing vacation is something very casual and you will need very little. Duffle bags are big but can be stored under your bed or even fit in the overhead bin on the airplane. They can be folded up when not in use, that will have you save some space.
Your documents and currency
There is not much you need to double and triple check before setting out on your holiday, but your documents such as your passport are defiantly one of these. Always make sure that you also have a copy of your passport with you but kept in a separate location should you lose your original. Another important piece of documentation you will want to keep close by is a copy of your charter package paperwork.
Make sure that you have both credit cards and cash with you before you set sail. While there may be modern facilities on your trip, you might also find that you stop over in areas which have not such facilities and you will have to pay cash. Make sure you exchange your money and have enough cash before you set sail on your yacht. It is also a good idea to have some kind of day pack that lets you carry money, sunglasses, passport, guidebooks, a water bottle, sunscreen or anything else you might need ashore.
Pack the right clothes
You can expect plenty of sun and sea and you will need very little clothes for your sailing trip. Aboard the boat, you will spend most of your time in swimwear but when you step on the mainland to visit some finer class restaurants, you will require dress trousers and shirts for men and dresses for women.
Here is the ideal packing list for a week’s trip

3 T-shirts/tank tops
5 T-shirts /or 3 T-shirts, 2 shirts
3 pairs of shorts
Pack the right shoes
You will spend most of your time wearing sandals but it is a great idea to bring a pair of walking shoes along to for daytime excursions.
Don’t forget the sunscreen
We cannot stress this point enough. Pack a sunscreen which offers a high level of UV resistance. You do not want to be sore and sunburnt on your holiday.
